The Last of Us: Part II developers commented on the absence

Last year, at E3 2018, developers from the Naughty Dog studio confirmed that there will be multiplayer in The Last of Us: Part II. However, yesterday, the authors of the game and Sony itself announced that they still had to abandon the competitive online mode.

Now Naughty Dog has published an official statement commenting on its decision.

As we have already said, the single-player campaign of the game is the most ambitious project of Naughty Dog. Similarly, when the development and evolution of the “Confrontation” mode from the first part began, the vision of the team grew beyond the limits of an additional regime that could be included along with our huge single-player campaign. Wanting to support both visions, we made a difficult choice not to include online mode in The Last of Us: Part II.

However, in the end, you will enjoy the fruits of our team’s ambitions, but not as part of The Last of Us: Part II. When and where these ambitions will be realized, we have yet to determine. But be sure that we are big fans of the “Confrontation”, like the rest of our community, so we will be happy to share the details when everything is ready.

The Last of Us: Part II will be released on February 21, 2020 only on the PlayStation 4. Earlier, journalists presented their impressions of a three-hour demonstration of the game.
