Kerbal Space Program 2 was announced at gamescom 2019. A simulator where brave little aliens will again have to develop their space program is due out next year. And although a lot of conventions are planned in the game, the developers of Star Theory Games want to put real science and physical laws at the heart of the project.
As in the original, the aliens have to learn by trial and error and blow up more than one rocket before building an existing one. The creators plan to make the game more accessible to players, but more realistic.
I’m not sure that you can print one of our engines on a 3D printer, shove metallic hydrogen into it and expect it to not explode. But we want to talk about real science. And if you go to Wikipedia and see what metallic hydrogen is, you will find out that this is a real emerging technology. The same applies to everything in the game.
Nate Simpson, Creative Director of Star Theory Games
Star Theory has prepared alien colonies and interstellar travels from the innovations, so users have to solve even more complex tasks. We have to calculate the gravitational maneuvers of binary planets that rotate around each other, and land on lands covered with lava.
Introducing new technologies, the developers consulted with real scientific experts and astronomers. It is hoped that the fantastic assumptions in Kerbal Space Program 2 will be no more insane than in Interstellar.
