Control appeared on the shelves yesterday, and today Digital Foundry experts have prepared a disappointing technical analysis of the console versions of the new product. However, if you have a PS4 Pro and even more so an Xbox One X, there’s nothing to worry about.
But the owners of the base consoles expect unpleasant surprises: if the overall image quality is reasonably the same on all consoles, minus the resolution, then the difference in performance between conventional and improved systems is very noticeable.
On PS4 and Xbox One, which work at resolutions of 900p and 720p with improved picture based on pixels from previous frames (used in Quantum Break), many battles with opponents can “stoke” the frame rate up to 10 FPS. And the worst situation is on the PS4.
On the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, which work at 1080p and 1440p with the same image enhancement technology, the situation is fundamentally different: there are no large-scale problems with maintaining the declared frame rate, although rare drops do happen, especially on Pro.
Perhaps the point is more powerful video cards of improved consoles, which manage to calculate physics much better - after all, this is a very important feature of Control, and it is especially actively used in battles.
Other technical issues include lingering on the Xbox One S when starting videos and navigating the menu. Also, Digital Foundry was unsatisfied with the download time causing flashbacks from the release version of Bloodborne.
Nevertheless, experts note that Control looks very good, but this does not forgive the critical problems of the project on the base consoles, where it is now simply unplayable - the new product should be run on PC, PS4 Pro or Xbox One X.
