DICE Studio Designer: “We hit the bottom with lootboxes in Star Wars: Battlefront 2”
DICE studio designer Dennis Brennwall gave an interview to GamesIndustry.biz portal, in which he outlined an inside view of the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 development company on the failure of the game, largely caused by scandals around the lootbox system:
“In less than a week, someone in the studio would not think:“ Imagine what would happen if we started the game without loot boxes. ” I think then both the players and the press would pay more attention to the content of the game than to the system attached to it. I am sure for us everything could have turned out differently. We truly believe that our game is a worthy sequel to Battlefront 1 and a worthy successor to the Battlefront series as a whole. But then we hit the bottom in terms of player reaction, and we had to climb up every month. ”
Brennwall is confident that despite the fact that those errors can no longer be fixed, Battlefront 2 got better over time:
“This year we are releasing more content than in the previous one - this is a sign of a healthy game. Our community is more than ever, especially after the announcements made at Gamescom. Probably, we needed to take a step back, look at ourselves in the mirror, recover from the difficult time for us all and just get to work. ”
